Located on the top floor of a 1970s building just a stone's throw from the sea in Varkiza, southern Greece, this 65-square-meter apartment underwent a complete renovation before becoming the summer residence for a couple and their two children.
Polisgram Architects wanted to cultivate a strong link between the apartment’s interior and the vast 110-square-meter terrace.
The existing large window was integrated into the kitchen space, allowing the landscape to become an integral part of the apartment, which, although located on the coast, overlooks a beautiful green square. Polisgram Architects favors light tones, inspired by the reflections of the sea, for this immaculate kitchen.
Turn around to discover the living room, separated from the kitchen by a simple openwork partition that subtly divides the large living area without creating a visual barrier. Our attention is naturally drawn to the vast terrace at the far end of the room.
The custom-made sofa features large drawers that offer ingenious storage solutions. It is framed by two open cabinets that double as nightstands for guests staying over in the living room.
On the terrace, the existing wrought-iron furniture was refurbished. A large white metal pergola equipped with a sun shade has been installed, allowing comfortable enjoyment of the outdoor space and views of the surrounding hills throughout the day.
Opposite the sofa, a spacious open bookcase occupies one wall of the living room. The lower section, with its closed elements, is topped by an oak shelf, adding a warm touch to this resolutely uncluttered apartment. On either side of the opening leading to the bedroom, the corners of the shelves are rounded to accompany the flow of traffic.
The bathroom features a neutral color palette of white and gray. Sobriety and efficiency are the order of the day!
A custom-made bunk bed takes center stage in the children’s bedroom. It features the apartment’s signature elements: rounded corners, oak elements and bright white… Wooden floors give the room a warm character.
Zoom in on the steps leading to the bunk bed. The first step is rounded to avoid bumps and falls. Drawers are also concealed in each step … and under the bed, as indicated by the round wooden handles.
The same principle applies to the closet: the made-to-measure white wardrobe features open oak shelves with a rounded design on one side.
A French window connects the primary bedroom to the terrace, offering a view of the trees in the square. This lush setting is enhanced by the use of wood.
A built-in wooden desk is located in the primary bedroom, just opposite the window. Perfect for finding inspiration while working!
A large, ceiling-high wardrobe is located next to the desk. The white doors stand out against the round wooden handles with their unique design.
The headboard combines shades of gray from the bathroom with wooden elements, creating a harmonious language that runs through every room in the apartment.
