At the request of its customers, Heimat Studio took on the challenge of integrating a kitchen, dining room and two bedrooms into a small apartment in the historic center of Seville.
Alongside a shower room and a compact first bedroom, a corridor leads directly from the entrance to the main living area.
In the living room, the original two-pane windows have been replaced by single-pane joinery to offer a more unobstructed view and accentuate the link between inside and outside.
A small balcony, typical of this part of Spain, extends the apartment outside.
It’s hard to find enough space in this 55 square meter home to create a second bedroom…
Heimat Studio therefore opted for flexibility in order to maintain generous floor space!
When night falls, a closet reveals a fold-away bed.
During the day, once the bed is folded away, this deliberately undefined space can be transformed into an office or an extension of the main living area.
Sliding on a rail integrated into the false ceiling, a curtain provides privacy for the occasional occupants of this flexible room.
From the bedroom to the kitchen, the use of birch wood is a common thread.
Its light hue lends warmth and luminosity to the apartment.
On the floor, large-format cemented stoneware tiles provide a continuous, homogeneous surface.
You’d never know that these cupboard doors conceal a pull-out bed!
The cabinet’s depth creates a small alcove to the left.
A naturally lit desk takes its place there.
A simple partition, concealing the curtain, separates the foldaway bed from the kitchen island.
On the living room side, it can be transformed into a table for two.
The use of birch wood gives the apartment a very special cachet.
The use of a single material visually unifies the space, however flexible it may be.
The large wooden piece of furniture in the living room, sometimes used as a kitchen unit, sometimes as a seat, bears witness to this desire for continuity between uses.
Birch and white walls: a tried-and-tested duo!
Entirely custom-designed, the kitchen units are streamlined to highlight the beauty of the wood grain.
Drawers and cupboard doors feature integrated handles.
The living room is particularly bright. Worktops and credenzas also reflect light.
The natural wood joinery of the windows harmonizes with the kitchen furniture.
The surface area of the shower room has been reduced to a minimum to create a larger living space.
White-painted walls and windows opening onto the outside provide welcome natural light.
