A friend introduced interior designer Margaux Robert to this charming cul-de-sac in the 20th arrondissement, surronded by old workers' houses dating from 1901. A timeless atmosphere that won us over immediately!

And when she visited this property on the1st floor of one of them (the result of the merger of two small adjoining apartments), she immediately saw its potential. Five months of renovation later, she's back in her cocoon, a 42 m² two-three room apartment - plus a 9 m² mezzanine floor - where everything has found its place, even a spare bed!

And yet, nothing came easy! To define the different living spaces she dreamed of - a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom and a reading/guest room area - the young interior designer had to knock down the walls of the adjoining rooms and play with heights, while taking structural constraints into account. A real challenge, as she readily admits that this project, however small, brought together all the issues to be resolved during renovation work: "One of the challenges, in particular, was to place my bedroom on top of the shower room, without feeling cramped in either of these rooms. For aesthetic reasons, I also wanted to increase the number of hidden spaces."

In the shower room, for example, the curved ceiling over the washbasin matches the shape of the staircase leading upstairs to the mezzanine bedroom, lit by another skylight. Accessible from the kitchen, the shower room is concealed by a curtained door that blends into the wall.

On the other side of the apartment, at the entrance, retractable truck steps lead to another, smaller mezzanine, which provides an extra sleeping area. Its curved floor partly crowns the dining area, breaking the almost cubic architecture of this large living space, which also includes a sitting area. Nerve center of the apartment, this volume is bordered by a vast closet which, by fitting under the small mezzanine, marks the entrance to the apartment on one side, and the steps leading to the bedroom on the other.

Today, it's hard to imagine that this apartment is the result of combining two small, constrained spaces, so much so that volumes and living space have been optimized. A total redistribution that also allows light to be omnipresent. A great asset!
