A pied-à-terre in the sky.

Switching the floorplan around to optimize light. When architect Malorie Rojon came across this 35 m² apartment on the top floor of a building in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, she was not just charmed by the period moldings, but above all by the three windows that faced her, unoverlooked and with an unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower. And then she had a revelation... “Initially, we thought we'd create a master suite as an extension of the bathroom. But when we saw the light when we broke down the partitions... We decided to reverse everything! Architectural constraints were the driving force behind the project,” she explains. The whole apartment was oriented towards the windows, to guide the eye towards the Eiffel Tower. In fact, it was the openings that defined the spaces: on window in the bedroom, one in the living room and one in the kitchen! So, no matter where you are in the apartment, you'll always have an unobstructed view of a piece of the Parisian sky. After renovation, the renovated property now serves as an intergenerational family pied-à-terre for a couple, their children and grandchildren, who take turns occupying it. Malorie anticipated all possible uses to accommodate different lifestyles. For example, the bedroom can be transformed into an office during the day, and accommodate a baby bed at night. The space, left deliberately open-plan, also called for a harmonization of colors to bring coherence. A palette of greens and pinks is used in the living rooms, bedroom and bathroom. All of which is enhanced by a selection of vintage furniture and lighting, creating an elegant little Parisian setting.
