Maxime Gasnier and Sébastien Maschino are two of the capital's most influential art curators. Just over a year ago, the duo moved into this lovely 70 m² apartment with a terrace overlooking the streets of the Jourdain district, a small village nestled in the heights of Belleville. Let's take a tour of this unusual pied-à-terre, where space is driven by contemporary design. In 2018, having already lived in the neighborhood for two years, the young couple discovered a duplex for sale only 300 meters from their apartment. They were interested to see its potential. The view from the rooftop prompted them to approach the former owner and arrange a first visit. The openness of the living room, the greenery on the terrace and the volume of the spaces immediately appealed to them. Through the large windows that make up the living area, light gently floods in. There are no partitions, and each space interacts with the others to form a single entity. Keen to preserve the noble materials already present in the apartment, the couple focused on decorating their new interior. Initially adorned with ornamental patterns, the kitchen tiles were homogenized by an emerald green paint from Ressource. According to the owners, this color is a perfect match for the solid wood parquet and surrounding furniture. "In our opinion, green has a complex, ambivalent chromatic power that fits in well with our tastes: it evokes both the organic and the artificial, the past and the future." Like their contemporary art magazine The Steidz, Maxime and Sébastien have chosen to highlight works of art and furniture from the new art scene. The custom-made table by Nicolas Zanoni, the Halka 150 sculpture by Mesut Öztürk and the stoneware work by Xolo Cuintle are proof of this. The interior is also inspired by the retro aesthetic of the 1970s, with vintage furniture sourced from Parisian flea markets. Collectors in their spare time, the couple enjoy unearthing paintings, photographs and other sculptures by artists of their generation: "Sometimes it's simply a question of encounters, of talents we want to support or artists with whom we collaborate for our print magazine." An apartment in line with its owners.
