First phone call, first visit. The soul of a former printing works, in the heart of an increasingly desirable Pantin. A raw surface that comes to life, the result of a perfect understanding between a young couple and the project's other stakeholders. The planets aligned as soon as Camille and Olivier decided to "wander beyond the ring road" for their first purchase. And it paid off as these lovers of eastern Paris saw this new chapter in their lives written in no time at all.
The starting point, however, was that pesky global pandemic. Like many others, Camille and Olivier were longing for space. They were quickly seduced by the prospect of orienting their search towards Pantin, a dynamic commune on the outskirts of Paris, where a few friends had already taken up residence. On the day of the visit, they also demonstrated their imagination: the developer showed them concrete walls and slabs... with no roof as of yet! No matter, they immediately saw in this future duplex the advantage of a blank page and the infinite design possibilities open to them. It was with the same spontaneity that the couple chose the professionals who would work with them. Mutual friends introduced them to Julien Dufresne, who had set up his own small-scale architectural practice with a small team. The architect's functional approach set the tone for the first conversation: "What do you need?" Olivier and Camille appreciated the relationship that soon developed, a reassuring framework for the design of spaces that made space for them to express their desires in terms of materials and décor - a balance that proved productive. In three months and without a hitch, the project was completed. So quickly, in fact, that certain technical aspects of the condominium were not quite ready... Olivier confides with amusement that he remembers "having to call the first neighbors to agree on the appropriate hours for running the washing machines." These little mishaps were quickly solved, and created a good understanding between them: "sometimes it feels like were on Friends!" For Julien, the architect, it was an equally virtuous encounter: the success of this first project enabled him to carry out four others in the development. This success can be summed up in one sentence: "We watermarked the project with a common desire to enhance the industrial spirit of the site." And a watchword: "to prioritize the contribution of light, which sometimes meant that a few square meters had to remain 'empty'".
The Saint-Germain church is right next to metro line 5, which runs directly to Paris. This is the gateway to the charming “Petit Pantin”, the heart of the city near the Canal de l’Ourcq. An up-and-coming district, it is constantly attracting new residents. To wit, a new school has just opened.
