The day interior designer Raphaël Suspène walked through the door of this Parisian apartment, it was a revelation. The future owner, Léopold, was a fellow schoolmate, whom Raphaël would accompany on all his property viewings, offering advice. This search in particular was especially close to the young interior designer’s heart, as it was only his second project. Coincidentally, it was also Léopold’s second purchase.
The studio had not been updated for a few decades, of course, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall carpeting. But it had good bones, great exposure, and a separate kitchen that could easily make way for a bedroom. But wait – a one-bedroom apartment in just 24 square meters? Raphaël promised his friend to optimize the space and storage as much as possible, in accordance with his wish to have the space for all of his passions: fitness, music, cooking, video production – and intense poker games: “This apartment should not only be a place to eat and sleep, it should be a complete living space.”
The project progressed wonderfully: “Léopold knew what he wanted, it was smooth. Three design proposals later, we had it all figured out: a zen, relaxing, autumnal atmosphere, inspired by both Japanese and Northern European design, with a touch of color to add a bit of pep.”
Léopold can no longer count the number of friends who expressed amazement at the actual size of the place. The fluidity of the floorplan gives the impression of a larger apartment than it really is. The young entrepreneur is so comfortable there that he has happily welcomed his partner and her cat into this perfect cocoon for the three of them.
