Paris 9th: 80 m² like a treasure chest of secrets

The challenge: optimizing volumes while enhancing period details 80 m² Paris, France 120 000 € Retro-contemporary Two-bedroom PS Studio

Located on Rue Lamartine, in the heart of Paris's 9th arrondissement, this 80-square-meter Haussmann-style three-bedroom now blends heritage and modernity. Designed for a young family and signed by the PS Studio agency, the project revolves around a reinterpretation of the space and highlighting period details.

From the double living room, a flood of natural light makes its way into the front hallway, revealing the imposing height of the varnished oak cupboards that punctuate the corridor.
In the double living room, the past dialogues with the present: integrated into the moldings, a projection screen can transform the space into a home cinema. Sliding doors, concealed in an arched frame, allow each of the two spaces to be separated while maintaining the flow of movement.

As if floating in mid-air, the trio of Bolia pendant lights enhances the dining area.

The open kitchen features the same wood finish as the cabinets, which stand on either side of the fireplace. As for the mirrored backsplash, it reflects the artwork in the living room while maximizing perspective.

In the corridor, access to the bathroom is concealed behind a hidden door: PS Studio’s Pierre Savajol describes the project as “a treasure chest of secrets.”

The room maintains a design aesthetic consistent with the rest of the apartment: a light-brown polished-concrete sink, dark-stained oak furniture and anthracite chrome fittings, all in a subtle interplay of textures.

In the primary bedroom, Ostro wall sconces by Simone & Marcel adorn a gilded wall, acting as a headboard.

A built-in oak desk echoes the woodsy spirit of the other rooms and extends the architect’s intentions, who also optimized the bedroom space with the addition of a large wardrobe that blends seamlessly into the partition.

Finally, the children’s bedroom, installed in the former kitchen, features reused parquet flooring with a lower wall painted in light blue by Farrow & Ball, giving it a lovely touch of character.
