From one wall to another: 26 m² of light in Nogent

The challenge: clarifying the uses of a mono-oriented apartment by revealing its structure 26 m² Nogent, France 25 000 € Radically minimal Studio Mathieu Durbec Architecture

In Nogent-sur-Marne, this 26-square-meter apartment in a 1970s building has been given a new lease of life by architect Mathieu Durbec. Its longitudinal grid becomes the backbone of the project. Between light and revealed materials, zoom in on a renovation that reveals the existing features rather than erasing them.
Installed where the kitchen once stood, the bedroom – designed like a boat cabin – is set in a luminous volume, light pours in through a glass-brick partition.

Leaning against the unfinished concrete wall, a bespoke base unit accompanies the sleeping area, extending the depth of the floor plan. The contrast between the mineral texture of the wall, the transparency of the glass and the softness of the textile reinforces the identity of the project.

The front-facing living room takes full advantage of the natural light. The bay window opens onto a garden and its vegetation, gently extending the floor plan.

Open to the living area, the kitchen asserts a matt, mineral presence. The light wood facades contrast with the roughness of the wall, stripped of its original plaster.

Punctuated by rounded handles and sconces, the ensemble is nuanced without losing its rigor.

The exposed metal of the sheathing and technical elements contributes to a direct, almost artisanal aesthetic.

As an extension of the kitchen, a table on castors integrates naturally into the living area.

Both a desk and a dining table, it can be used for everyday purposes, enhancing the flexibility of the space.

In its original location, the shower room retains its coverings and most of its fittings. Deep, bright green tiles envelop the space in a dense monochrome atmosphere.

The pink curtain that isolates the intimate spaces can be seen in the mirror. Visible from the entrance, it runs through the project like a discreet thread.
