Brazil: 42 m² designed with continuity in mind

The challenge: creating an open, cohesive space out of a former two-room apartment 42 m² Porto Alegre, Brazil 20 000 € Cosy minimalism Studio Studio Ocre Arquitetura

This 42-square-meter studio is located in a former hotel in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Designed in a minimalist style, it uses continuous furniture to enlarge the space and soften the light.

Upon entering the space, the light guides the eye towards the main room.

On the right, the kitchen is set in a cozy alcove, emphasized by a slightly lowered ceiling that defines its volume.

The marine-grade plywood facades reveal the texture of the wood, complemented by the matte black of the backsplash.

The brushed granite countertop, both sturdy and soft to the touch, extends into the living room to form a welcoming island.

The wood, sometimes smooth, sometimes striped, reflects the attention to detail that characterizes the overall simplicity of the design.

The dining room is bathed in soft light, filtered through the generous window’s sheer curtains.

The ceiling, shaped by curvy cutouts, complements the light and softens the geometry of the room. The light wood table matches the built-in bench that runs along the wall and highlights the view.

Opposite the bookcase, the sofa extends in line with the table, creating a single space bathed in light.

The sandy tones of the fabric complement the light wood of the custom-made furniture, which incorporates the television and air conditioning. The ensemble, softened by a large textured rug, creates a gentle and enveloping atmosphere.

Opposite the sofa, the bookcase unfolds into a bed, extending the idea of a space in motion.

When the bed is tucked away, the whole structure reads as a single plane, animated by the vertical wooden posts that punctuate this interior façade.

The bathroom echoes the spirit of the space, designed with the same emphasis on brightness. Light-colored surfaces reflect the light, while porcelain stoneware provides a soft, uniform texture.
