This two-level, 63-square-meter Levallois-Perret apartment has been completely renovated by Maïa Descombes of Poësis Studio with the aim of opening up and streamlining its living spaces.
Removing the load-bearing wall between the living room and kitchen created an open space where the living room and the new dining room flow into each other. A rounded bookcase set against an Orac Décor wall covering adds depth and texture to the room.
In the living room, custom wall paneling combined with Gioco wallpaper from Arte creates an atmosphere that is bold yet warm, while Skimming Stone paint from Farrow & Ball enhances the natural light that streams in.
The centerpiece of the project, an island with a fluted round column—a nod to the bookcase’s cladding—creates a harmonious transition between the living room and the kitchen, which is clad in dark brown wood panels and features a matte-finish Dekton Danae ceramic worktop by Cosentino.
The dark wood of the cabinets and the Dekton countertop, along with the beige tiles, create a warm and refined balance. The sconces by La Quincaillerie Moderne add an extra touch of elegance.
Every element of the kitchen has been designed to combine aesthetics and functionality. The bronze tap, the opening that diffuses light into the stairwell, and the fluted backsplash that echoes the island and bookcase create a harmonious and coherent whole.
Another one of the apartment’s load-bearing walls was knocked through to create two large arches: one to connect the kitchen to the living room, the other to reconnect the stairwell to the rest of the apartment.
The staircase was painted in Oxford Stone No. 264 by Farrow & Ball, an elegant beige that creates a soothing atmosphere, enhanced by the installation of LED lighting under the handrail. Storage space was built into the steps to further optimize the space.
Poësis Studio modernized the bathroom while maintaining the color palette found on the first level. The two floors share many similarities, such as the La Quincaillerie moderne sconce, creating subtle and harmonious continuity throughout the duplex.
The shower features travertine-effect tiles by CasaLux Home Design and matte black faucets.
The primary bedroom exudes a soothing atmosphere. Farrow & Ball’s Skimming Stone No. 241 paint blends with Orac France wall coverings to create an organic flow with the living room. The carefully crafted wall and warm textiles offer a perfect balance between modernity and comfort.
Maïa Descombes went for a symmetrical and even-handed approach, with decorative and functional niches, as well as two large full-height closets, on either side of the bed.
Framed by lighter-colored storage units than those that frame the bed, a dark wood desk stands out in the second bedroom, adding both functionality and sophistication while enhancing the visual balance of the room and the sense of continuity between the different spaces.
