A colorful 22 m² apartment in Paris

The challenge: to make a former artist's studio habitable while preserving its soul. 22 m² Paris, France 45 000 € Retro-contemporary Studio Ekhi Busquet

Looking for a Parisian pied-à-terre, designer and artistic director Ekhi Busquet fell under the spell of this 22 m² former artist’s studio on the top floor of a building in the Marais district. Still in its original state, with no water or electricity, the space was packed from floor to ceiling with canvases!

These 22 m² have been passed from the hands of one artist to those of another. Fascinated by color, Ekhi Busquet uses it to structure the space of her “shoebox”. The use of bold hues contrasts beautifully with the exposed beams and original floor tiles that have been preserved.

A painting by Matthieu Vergote sits above the brick and carved wood fireplace. Its square shape matches that of the hearth, while its colors seem a natural match for the hues chosen by Ekhi Busquet. The Gravêne chairs are from Maximum.

Despite the apartment’s small size, Ekhi Busquet gave it a real kitchen, which the presence of a mirror to the left of the window seems to make even more spacious.

With its white cabinets, the kitchen looks rather unassuming… But on closer inspection, a host of original details stand out: the countertop is tiled and grouted in iceberg blue, matching the faucet.

In the living room (delineated by a rug,) Ekhi Busquet chose a neutral Westwing sofa, enhanced by colorful cushions and plaid from Mapoésie and H&M. Pilastro violet stool from Kartell.
The designer, who was born in the South of France, naturally turned to an azure palette that transports us to the Mediterranean. Iceberg paint by Plum Living covers an entire wall. Blue Ü pouffe by noo.

Ekhi Busquet takes advantage of every nook and cranny of the apartment to create storage space. Here, shelves hold books and knick-knacks, while logs for the fireplace are cleverly hidden in a small cupboard.

The bedroom, large enough for a 140 x 200 cm bed, is separated from the living room by a custom-made glass partition made of wooden slats. The back wall of the apartment is covered with mirrors that seem to double the bedroom’s surface area.

The elongated shape of this attic apartment comes into perspective from the bedroom. The existing tommettes floor tiles have been carefully preserved. They add an undeniable cachet to the apartment.

To optimize the dining area, Ekhi Busquet decided to truncate a bistro table so that it could lean against the wall painted Leaf green by Plum Living, which hides…

The tiles are grouted in green, but the blue from the kitchen here is hinted at with touches of Majorelle blue. The Mediterranean is never far…
