The entrance has been stripped back and left unfinished, as if to evoke the building’s historic character. In contrast, a contemporary mirror adorns this deliberately uncluttered space.
The original brick ceiling has also been preserved. It is enhanced by minimalist linear wall lights.
In the living room, color is applied in dabs to create a cheerful yet soothing ambiance, highlighting architectural elements such as the small arches on the ceiling.
As the apartment is designed to accommodate travelers, the kitchen is compact and efficient. A full-height window illuminates the space in muted tones.
The “totem”, a central sculptural volume, separates the spaces within the apartment and articulates circulation between the living room, kitchen and first bedroom.
In addition to its separating function, this module houses storage units on each side: a closet, a bookcase, a refrigerator and even a wine cellar!
In the bedroom, the rough-hewn walls that give the apartment its charm are enhanced by contemporary, sober furnishings, such as the canopy that echoes the headboard from a beautiful perspective effect.
Behind the wine-colored archway over the bed is a discreet access to a dressing room.
Further away from the living room, the second bedroom has been treated as a separate room. The walls are uniformly colored, while the bed is adorned with geometrically patterned fabrics.
A moucharabieh wallin terracotta brick separates the bedroom from the bathroom, allowing light to filter through.
This bathroom is further proof, if proof were needed, that modern materials can be combined with older, rough-cut elements to create an interior that’s full of character!
