The apartment is located in the oldest building on Warsaw’s Lwowska Street. A building that has stood the test of time and war!
As soon as you pass through the front door, the bathroom appears on the right, setting the tone with its brass fittings and rounded-edge mirrors. Classic and contemporary collide here, for a highly successful retro-minimalist effect.
The entrance hallway, which conceals its storage space behind curtains, leads to the bedroom. The first thing that strikes you about this apartment is its impressive ceiling height of 3.50 meters.
The owner loves white, but to avoid an overly classical look and give structure to the whole, the architect added stucco to the bottom of the walls, painted in porcelain grey. Others also run across the ceiling. The bed, meanwhile, was custom-designed. Most of the textiles are in natural linen.
The bedroom communicates directly with the living area, which is flooded with light from the large windows. The frames of these windows have also been painted in porcelain gray to highlight them, while underlining the architectural heritage of this twentieth-century building.
The antique chandelier, which further emphasizes the ceiling height, was found at Warsaw’s Bazar na Kole flea market, after the architect had scoured online auctions for 5 months without success!
The parquet is vinyl with a light wood pattern: it’s less expensive than real wood parquet and more durable, as the owner likes clean floors and wants to clean it very often.
The architect opted for a darker color for the kitchen cupboard veneer, just like the wooden chairs or the mixer tap clinging to the wall. The aim? Lend depth and character to the whole.
The table was custom-made in micro-cement and metal, according to the architect’s sketches.
The owner was keen to create a mezzanine to take advantage of the generous ceiling height. To get up there, she didn’t want to hear about ladders! She opted for the comfort of a staircase.
The mezzanine accommodates a second double bed, so that visiting friends can be easily accommodated.
