14 m² in Paris: an optimized cocoon on the Île Saint-Louis

The challenge: transforming an old maid's room into a fluid, functional studio 14 m² Paris, France 55 000 € Cosy minimalism Studio Florquin Studio

On Île Saint-Louis, in the heart of Paris, Florquin Studio has transformed a former maid's room into a light-filled studio, where every square centimeter is used judiciously.
Under the rooftops, the space is rooted in its past thanks to a floor of ancient terracotta tiles, preserved for its warm patina, which creates a harmonious contrast with the project’s contemporary elements.

Two wood-paneled walls structure the space. Framing the dormer window, they group various functions: on one side, the kitchen and bathroom, and on the other, storage and the bedroom.

Designed as a multifunctional unit, the kitchen features a pull-out drawer that can be converted into a side table. An ingenious solution for small spaces.

The kitchen combines the elegance of pink marble with the nobility of oak, creating an ensemble of clean lines. Handles by La Quincaillerie Saint-Germain. Louise Noart worktop.

From the main room, the bathroom comes into view behind a space with soft contours. The curve of the wall follows the flow of the layout and adds a touch of formal softness to this compact space. A fold-away desk extends this concept of space optimization. When folded away, it disappears to open up the space.

The polycarbonate door in the shower room filters the light, transforming itself into a home lantern when night falls.

The shower room features a floor with retro motifs inspired by the 1960s. This graphic choice contrasts with the sobriety of the woodwork, adding a playful touch to the overall look.

The oval basin, tinted a delicate shade of pink, is paired with a half-arch mirror. The countertop, identical to that in the kitchen, ensures an elegant visual continuity.

The wall opposite the kitchen features a row of custom-built cabinets that incorporate various storage solutions and a La Maison du Convertible sofa.

Behind this wooden facade, the sleeping area is revealed: a discreetly built-in fold-down bed transforms the studio into a bedroom come evening. Once folded away, it disappears completely into the woodwork, restoring the room’s open flow and daytime functionality.

Under the window, a long, low cabinet hugs the slope of the roof and becomes a bench. It’s a thoughtful way to make the most of the unusual space while offering a prime view of the Parisian rooftops.

Near the entrance, the wood-paneled wall curves to naturally accompany the circulation. A discreetly integrated open niche elegantly accommodates everyday essentials.
